What Are the Different Types of Water Damage?
Category 1 - Clean Water: The IICRC defines Category 1 Water Damage as water that originates from a sanitary water source and does not pose a substantial risk from dermal, ingestion, or inhalation exposure.
EX: water supply lines, toilet tanks, faucets
Category 2 - Grey Water: The IICRC defines Category 2 Water Damage as water that contains significant contamination and has the potential to cause discomfort or sickness if contacted or consumed by humans.
EX: dishwasher/washing machine overflow, contaminated toilet bowl, flushed from sink drains
Category 3 - Black Water: The IICRC defines Category 3 Water Damage as water that is grossly contaminated and can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, or other harmful agents and can cause significant adverse reactions to humans if contacted or consumed.

The Water Damage MITIGATION Process
Our team of specialized experts performs an inspection to assess all damage using moisture-detection equipment and mandatory testing for asbestos, lead, mold, and other microbial bacteria, if present. By establishing a “dry standard” of the structure, moisture mapping is performed, and reports are conducted.
Any standing water is removed with extraction equipment and our experts perform a damage assessment with expert judgment to determine if equipment or demolition is necessary.
To prevent cross-contamination in non-affected areas, containment areas are constructed in established affected areas to increase the efficiency of all equipment on-site.
Salvageable personal property is itemized, packed, and relocated for sanitization (if needed) to both protect and prevent secondary damages. Non-salvageable personal property is documented and disposed of all while assisting with insurance claims.
In most cases using equipment to dry down the affected area, our team drills holes in the baseboard to speed up the drying timeline.
If demolition is necessary, the removal of baseboards, wall materials, and insulation may be performed to expedite the drying of the affected area.
Daily monitoring allows our team to measure, manage, and adjust all equipment used during the mitigation process.
With consideration of the category of water damage and the pre-loss condition of all areas, our team provides assessment, cleaning, and sanitization.
Once the “dry standard” is achieved and documented in our reports, all equipment can be removed or reconstruction repairs can begin.

While restoring your property, GC&R can take inventory of and carefully pack out your salvageable personal contents to take them to our secure facilities for in-depth and state-of-the-art cleaning, restoration, and storage while your property is being returned to pre-loss condition. If items cannot be restored or are deemed more expensive to restore, rather than replace, then our team will work with your insurance to declare them as non-salvageable in return for insurance compensation to replace.
